Intro to Old-School Forums

Post by TE Anubis »

Some of you might not be experienced with old-school forums. They're a bit different from a lot of the modern internet, but they're quite easy to use once you get the hang of how they work.

The site is organized into sections. Each section has one or more forums. You might also call them "boards."

Discussions are organized into "topics," also known as "threads." Each thread typically focuses on a specific discussion topic laid out in the first post, or the "OP."

You're able to reply to a thread, which adds a new post to the end. You're also able to quote a specific post within a thread to respond to it in particular.

The forum is meant to be resource-light and not host more files than needed. Images can be added to posts, but they will need to be hosted offsite (usually on a service like catbox.moe) and linked using the proper BBcode.

For example:

Code: Select all
